Colonel Robert Franklyn "Bob" Overmyer is an American test pilot, naval pilot, aviation engineer, physicist, Marine officer and astronaut of USAF / NASA. Overmyer was selected by the Air Force as an astronaut for his manned orbital laboratory in 1966. After the program was canceled in 1969, he became a NASA astronaut and served on support missions. crew assistance for the Apollo program, the Skylab program and the Apollo ship - Soyuz test project. In 1976, he was appointed to the Space Shuttle Program and flew as a pilot on the STS-5 in 1982 and took command of the STS-51-B in 1985.
